A Guide to Surviving the Office Air Conditioning

by Posted in Lifestyle .

There is a heat wave predicted for the UK in the next couple of days and that means one thing – the air conditioning will be on full blast in the office.

Whilst we love the relief from the unbearable heat as we sit and sweat at our desks, our skin isn’t quite as welcoming. Air conditioning dries and reduces the humidity in the room –leading to dry and rough skin – which none of us want.

So what can you do to look after your skin without sacrificing your comfort?

Stay Hydrated

It’s important that you keep hydrated throughout the day – drink as much water as possible. Drinking water is essential when it comes to healthy skin and it’s recommended that you drink at least 8 glasses every day. It will help nourish your skin which will reduce the risk of your skin drying out.

Avoid Skin Irritants

You should avoid wearing anything that is going to irritate your skin more than the air conditioning is already doing. This means you should avoid piling on scented products such as perfume and body sprays. Harsh soaps and perfumes will only dry your skin out further!

Take Breaks

Don’t sit in the office throughout the entire day. When it’s break time or dinner time, you should take the time to get out of the office for a brief spell. Walk around outdoors or go and sit in a room that doesn’t have air conditioning. The affects of air conditioning will be reversed when you’ve left the environment – your skin needs this time to refresh.

Eat More Fruit & Vegetables

Could the secret to healthy skin be in the amount of fruit and vegetables that you eat within a day? They definitely play an important role during the summer when it comes to protecting our skin from the harsh effects of air conditioning. You should choose the ones that have plenty of water – such as watermelons.

Don’t Forget Your Moisturiser

You should pack your moisturiser every morning so that you can use it throughout your working day. You want to choose one that hydrates your skin and reduces the risks of it drying out. Apply it to your entire body in the morning and then apply to your hands and face throughout the day!

Unfortunately, the air conditioning isn’t the only thing that puts your skin at risk during the summer. It’s essential that you look after and protect your skin from the sun too – especially if you’re heading off on holiday.
