2021 New Year Skincare Resolutions

Remove Your Make-Up

It’s the age-old advice that’s been around since the dawn of time. Well not quite, but we all know that we should be doing it. Trouble is, we don’t always do it! Tiredness, complacency, and the odd tipple are the normal culprits. Then, we slink into bed, feeling guilty, knowing that our skin will suffer in the morning. Tweak your routine. Go to bed 10 minutes earlier to fit in enough time. A convenient, easy to use product also helps. We love Dr Barbara Sturm’s Cleanser. It gently clears the dermis, leaving it ready to absorb other products more efficiently.

Double Cleanse

Cleansing is the first step in great skincare. If you’ve ever had a facial, you might have noticed that the therapist double- cleansed your skin. Superficial debris consisting of make-up, dirt, pollutants and SPF is removed by the first cleanse. On the second cleanse, remaining oil and debris is lifted away. Skin is left thoroughly cleansed and prepared to receive further products.

Make Skincare a Wellbeing Ritual

To get a great night’s sleep, create an evening wind down wellbeing ritual. Whether your normal go-to is a bath, book or aromatherapy candle, spend some time nourishing skin with a complete range of skincare products. It can feel wonderfully relaxing and therapeutic and by having a regular nightly skincare routine, this will signal to your brain that it’s time for sleep. Not only that but your skin will look fabulous.

Try an Acid Exfoliator

Gone are the days of heavy, rough exfoliation, that left behind red-raw skin. Thankfully, exfoliators have come a long way. Now there’s real science behind them. Make the change to an enzymatic exfoliator which uses Alpha-Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). 111Skin Clinical Exfoliator is the perfect example. This nightly leave on formula is genius. Simply apply it after cleansing and leave it to sink in, before continuing with the rest of your skincare routine. Whilst you sleep, it gently works its magic, calmly dissolving dead skin, leaving you to awaken with smooth, refined skin.

Drink More H2O

Let me take an educated guess. You’ve tried this one before. You’ve even bought a water bottle with measurements. (Don’t worry, I have an unused one also sitting in a cupboard somewhere). The truth, though, is that most of us don’t drink the recommended 6-8 glasses of water per day. Water is an essential component. It brings hydration to thirsty skin, flushes out toxins and increases blood circulation, which is helpful for an even skin tone. You’ll be amazed at how much clearer and brighter skin looks if you meet the daily requirement.

Get 8 Hours of Sleep

Supplements work on a cellular level, detoxifying, nourishing and providing skin with optimum levels of nutrients from the inside out. Try 111Skin Reparative Beauty Dose Capsules. These little miracles are a full-spectrum antioxidant and are even based on original supplements given to astronauts to prevent rapid ageing. Containing powerful ingredients like Vitamins E, C, A, Coenzyme Q10 and Glutathione, it’s no wonder that this is a fantastic anti-ageing product.

Drink Herbal Teas

Tea is known to offer many health-benefits. Water, its main component, is vital for keeping skin healthy and hydrated. It can also help to reduce inflammation and reverse effects of UV damage. Good digestion equals clear skin. Try ginger and mint teas after a meal. Chamomile induces sleep, another key factor for healthy skin. Matcha Green Tea, well-known for its detoxifying properties contains a high dose of anti-ageing antioxidants, which prevent free radical damage to cells.

Use a Daily Serum

Serums pack a powerful punch of nutrient-rich vitamins and hydration. If you’re not already using one, it’s definitely time you did! OBAGI’S Professional C Serum 20% protects against free radical damage from daily stressors, like sun-damage and chemicals. Vitamin C also promotes healthy collagen production for supple, elastic skin. Expect less skin inflammation, less irregular pigmentation, diminished fine lines and wrinkles and brighter, firmer skin.

Add a Face Mask

Add a face mask two to three times a week to treat specific skincare concerns, including acne, dehydration, fine lines, wrinkles and dull skin. Dr Barbara Sturm has created the powerful, protective Dr Barbara Sturm Face Mask which leaves skin positively glowing, even after one use. Purslane, an active ingredient, stimulates the skin’s own antioxidant system. Dr Barbara Sturm’s Face Mask defends against sun-damage and ageing. Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and Chamomile make it a wonderfully protective and nourishing face mask.
