2021 Skincare Trend Skin Minimalism
It’s no surprise that skin minimalism is set to be this year’s biggest beauty trend. After all, the lockdown has seen millions of us ditching the made-up look in favour of bare skin. After a prolonged break from make-up and pollution, our skin is looking clearer, brighter and rejuvenated.
Whilst we’ve cleared out the cupboard under the stairs, most of us haven’t gone as far as decluttering our bathroom yet. The thought of binning impulse buys that seemed such a good idea at the time is still a step too far! Now that we’ve scored a big win with better looking skin, it’s time to question whether we want to go back to our old ways.
What Is Skin Minimalism?
Also known as ‘Skinimalism’, this is all about adopting a minimal approach towards skincare and make-up. Traditional beauty ideals are being challenged and about time too. This emerging philosophy is about stripping back and embracing our real skin without the need to cover up flaws. Caking on a heavy foundation, spot concealer, eye concealer and loose powder are no longer the order of the day. The vibe is definitely ‘au naturel’ allowing natural skin texture to shine through instead. In many ways, skincare is crossing over into the beauty sector and they are becoming one and the same.

Going with less or fully without make-up is a big deal for most of us. It takes bravery, guts and confidence. The right products for your skin, however, will improve the appearance of your complexion and help you get to that place. Look for clinically proven, scientifically backed products that contain active ingredients, like Arbutin, Retinol, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C. These will change skin at a cellular level, rather than superficially and as a result, you’ll see visible, long-lasting results from your skincare.
How Do I Simplify My Skincare Routine?
Forget 10, 11, 12 or however many steps we’ve been told needs to be in a skincare routine. Slash the number of steps down by focusing on effective multi-purpose products. There are other benefits too. Limiting the amount of skincare products that you use will allow you to save time and money. In today’s eco-conscious world, it also means less waste.
To ensure that skin is in its optimum condition, lessening the need for make-up, we’d recommend using a cleanser, antioxidant serum, retinol, moisturiser and SPF daily.
