Heading off on holiday is something that everyone looks forward to. Whether it’s a hot destination, a colder climate or even somewhere that is notoriously humid, everyone has their own idea of the perfect getaway.
However, it’s important to have your skin in mind when it comes to planning your holiday. Your skin will be used to the climate that you spend most of your time in, so you can imagine that heading to a place which has a very different climate can play havoc with your skin’s health.
Depending on the climate you are going to be experiencing, there are a few steps that you can take to ensure that your skin stays happy and healthy, no matter what climate you’re in!
Heading Somewhere Humid?
Humid weather can often make you feel uncomfortable anyway, but you can lessen the unpleasant experience by ensuring that your skin keeps glowing and remains healthy.
Drinking lots of water is a must, especially as you will need to stay hydrated. Water keeps the skin healthy, so it’s important to remember to hydrate yourself every so often. Sometimes your skin can start to feel dry and tight, so it’s important to keep yourself hydrated so your skin remains full of moisture – even applying a light moisturiser can help!
Exfoliating before you go is also advised to ensure that your pores are free of dirt and grime. In humid conditions, it can often be hard for the skin to remain dirt and grease-free, so make sure you’re doing all you can to prevent this building up beforehand!
Off Somewhere Cold?
Cold weather is known for being extremely drying when it comes to your skin. With this in mind, you should be prepared with moisturisers which protect the skin while keeping it hydrated at the same time.
It’s also advisable that you try and warm up gradually if you’re too cold. Rather than subjecting your skin to drastic temperature changes, try warming up in stages. For example, instead of jumping into a hot shower to warm yourself up, start off warm and gradually work up to a hotter temperature. Try not to go too hot, though; excessive heat can lead to additional moisture loss in your skin, increasing the chances of dry, flaky skin occurring.
Remember to apply sunscreen if you are heading to somewhere that is sunny but snowy – your skin can still become damaged from the sun’s rays even if it’s not hot!
Jetting off to a Hot Climate?
Aside from the obvious protection from the hot sun by applying – and regularly reapplying – sunscreen, you need to step up your skincare routine if you’re heading somewhere that is notably hot.
Instead of wiping oily skin, blot the moisture away to avoid your pores becoming clogged. Wiping will only smooth the oils around your skin which can lead to blocked pores and spots. If you need to use a moisturiser, make sure that it is light and oil-free.
As you will be sweating more, it’s important to freshen up every once in a while and stay hydrated. By drinking water more frequently and washing your face when you feel too sweaty, you will help keep your skin happy and hydrated, reducing the chances of any issues arising.
You know your own skin better than anyone else, so wherever you are heading off to on holiday, make sure that you are listening to your skin and giving it what it needs most. Keeping your skin healthy is something that we heavily endorse here at Skinstation!
