Create a Skincare Routine You Can Stick To

We all tend to start the new year full of good intentions but eventually fall off the wagon along the way. Take care of your skin by creating a routine you know you will be able to stick to. Always being available means you don’t have much, if any, time to yourself, which will eventually take a toll on you.

This year, make a promise to switch off your devices (or at least your social media notifications) and just enjoy being in the moment. Even if it’s just for a day, unplugging will stop technology from taking over your life and give you a breather.

This can be a bit of a tricky one and may take time to get used to. Most of us wish we could snap our fingers and fall into a deep, restful slumber; since that isn’t possible, the next best thing is to use a few tips and tricks that can help you to prioritise sleep.

Instead of staying up late to catch up on your favourite TV shows or to go through your unread messages on social media, go to bed one hour earlier. Sleeping well is the ultimate self-care gift you can give yourself, because sleep is incredibly important for your health. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’ll be tired and will find it more difficult to concentrate on your day-to-day tasks.

Pamper Yourself

From time to time, it’s important to have a ‘me day’. The stresses of daily life can quickly pile up and, if you carry on working without taking any breaks and making time for yourself, you’ll quickly burn out. Do something for yourself at least once or twice a month. Even just one day off can make all of the difference in the world, especially if you’re overworked and exhausted. Not only will you feel revitalised and more energised, but you’ll also have something to look forward to in the run-up to your ‘me day’, which will do wonders for your productivity.

In the same line of thinking, you should also spend some time alone if you crave it. Whether or not you’re an introvert, being alone for a while can give you all of the space you need for things like a hot bubble bath, a nap or meditation – all self-care activities you should experience in 2019.

Exercise Regularly

The most common new year’s resolution people make is to exercise more and become healthier, but not everyone follows through. It’s easy to get excited at the beginning of a new year and make plans to exercise more; however, it’s also necessary to set up reasonable goals that won’t make you want to give up along the way.

Exercise is fantastic for your health – both mental and physical – and it’s great as a stress reliever, so it’s a self-care measure you will want to add to your life in 2019. Implement a new regime by starting small. Instead of promising yourself you’ll go for a morning run every single day (which, let’s face it, is not for everyone), do what you love, whether that’s swimming, cycling, walking, dancing or yoga.

Say ‘No’ More Often

It’s healthy to set boundaries and, if you struggle with that, make 2019 the year you finally start saying ‘no’ without feeling incredibly guilty afterwards. Don’t do things you don’t want to do just to be polite and don’t allow others to impose their will. Learning to say ‘no’ can be a challenge, given that many people are afraid to seem rude (or hurt someone’s feelings). However, this is a crucial element of self-care and should be observed in this new year.
