Aging Skin: How Your Skin Changes As You Get Older (Part 1)

by Posted in Face, Lifestyle, Skin .

Your skin changes with age. This isn’t something that can stopped, it’s inevitably going to change as your grow older. You might start to notice that your skin isn’t as smooth or tight as it used to be, and that it’s started to feel much drier and more fragile than ever before. There is nothing wrong with this; it’s just a natural part of aging.

Let’s take a look at the different ways that your skin ages during a lifetime, and what could possibly be done to slow down the process.

In Your Teens / 20s

What happens: Women usually have their best ever complexion during their late teenage years and during their 20s, which is mostly down to the fact that estrogen levels are at their highest. They will find that their skin is evenly toned, bright and taunt. However, due to hormonal changes, women also face a high risk of oily skin and acne. If this isn’t treated correctly, it can leave to scarring on the skin.

Treat it: You need to start or maintain an excellent skincare routine. Products such as our Obagi Clenziderm range are perfect for tackling teenage skin problems, whilst our Obagi products are brilliant for dealing with skin problems such as oily complexions. It’s important to take your makeup off before bed time, as this also leads to spots. As we always stress, you really need to start moisturising (if you don’t already) – we can’t talk enough about the benefits for your skin including replacing moisture on the skin after it’s been lost.

In Your 30s

What happens: When you reach your 30s, you might start to realise that your skin isn’t as bright as it used to be, and it might start to look a lot less plump. You might also start to notice lines and wrinkles on the face, especially around the eyes. This is because estrogen levels have started to slow down, along with cell turnover – your skin isn’t able to bounce back as quickly as it used to.

Treat it: It’s important that you start increasing the amount of anti-aging products that you use. This is especially important at night, because this is the time where your skin naturally repairs itself. There are a number of products available to fight the aging process, including our Obagi Elastiderm Eye Treatment Gel which helps restore elasticity around the eyes – smoothing wrinkles and lines. There are other cosmetic options to consider too; dermal fillers and Botox being the most popular.
