Care Tips for Skin with Rosacea

by Posted in Lifestyle .

Rosacea is a common skin disorder characterised by a constantly red face, affecting between 0.5 and 10 percent of the population. It typically develops between teenage years to the 20s, and it can worsen around the 30s or the 40s.

Reducing rosacea symptoms and improving your comfort is a very real and possible solution. From simple skin redness to more serious eye irritation and acne-like bumps, rosacea can be easily managed.

Avoid Your Triggers

Everyone has different triggers for the condition, and you might notice that your rosacea worsens sometimes.

Spicy foods, caffeine, alcoholic beverages, and hot drinks are known to cause rosacea to flare. Other triggers include cold, hot, or windy weather, stress, skin products, and scrubbing the skin. By limiting your exposure to triggers you will be able to reduce rosacea’s redness and itchiness.

On the other hand, you may be able to reduce flare ups by eating healthy fats like olive oil, coconut oil, nuts and seeds, and avocado to help with the inflammation. Salmon provides quality protein and omega-3 fatty acids, and ginger, turmeric, garlic, green tea, and other green vegetables fight skin inflammation.

Protect Your Skin from the Sun

Hot weather and exposure to UV light worsen rosacea, and wearing sunscreen helps to prevent skin irritation. Hypoallergenic and fragrance-free sunscreens are ideal for skin with rosacea, and you should wear them daily. While sun exposure is vital for the production of Vitamin D, too much sun irritates your rosacea and might cause a flare-up.

Moisturise Your Skin

Moisturising your skin daily minimises symptoms of discomfort and itchiness. If you have oily skin, moisturising might not be part of your daily routine. You can however, use natural moisturisers like coconut oil to provide your skin with the needed acids without causing more irritation.

Other, more effective, solutions include a redness neutraliser specially formulated for skin prone to redness and sensitive skin, which hydrates your skin and reinforces the barrier function to allow redness to reduce.
