Double cleansing and other simple tips for you to try

by .

Any skin care professional will tell you that the secret to glowing and healthy skin doesn’t necessarily have to be your expensive highlighter palette or that amazing foundation formula. Despite the fact that there’s an abundance of beauty options out there that will make you look dewy and glowing, no matter the coverage, when your skin is bare, you may still be left with a dull, tired-looking complexion that needs a pick-me-up ASAP.

The good news is, there is a lot that you can incorporate into your skincare that will completely transform your complexion.

Have you ever washed your face at the end of the day, used a cotton pad to swipe your toner across your face only to still find traces of dirt and makeup? This is one of the reasons why double cleansing has become absolutely paramount.

Double cleansing is a method whereby you cleanse your face with an oil-based cleanser (or a makeup remover) and again with a water-based cleanser. This makes sure that you have broken down makeup and other dirt residues on your face, before fully washing it with your favorite foam or gel cleanser.

We’re no strangers to makeup formulas that claim to last up to 48 hours, which means that sweat and facial oils are less likely to make it budge. With this in mind, a simple makeup remover wipe and going straight to your skincare routine at night is never enough. Proper makeup removal and facial cleansing should be practiced to keep your skin and pores clean of impurities. This can further prevent acne and breakouts that might occur due to clogged pores. In a matter of weeks, you’ll see that your skin has become instantly brighter and glowing.

No one can deny the benefits of a decent massage. Our faces are no different, with our skin reaping the rewards of a quality facial massage. The simple science behind this is that massaging the facial area helps increase blood and oxygen circulation on the face. Therefore, providing us with a natural facelift and an increase in collagen production without any professional treatment.

There are tons of tools that you can use to do facial massages and a few of them are precious stone rollers (jade rollers, rose quartz rollers, etc.), Gua Sha tools, battery operated and rechargeable facial massagers, and even your fingers. All you have to do is go through your daily skincare regimen and once you apply your moisturiser, use the tool of your preference to massage your face gently. Not only will this facial massage give you better-looking skin, but this can also help the products you apply to be absorbed effectively.

Bath salts or Epsom salt have been widely used as a very easy and inexpensive way to detox, improve health and relieve stress. After a long day or week, many opt to wind down and relax by making yourself a warm bath with Epsom salt.

Bath salts can help relieve skin irritations, inflammation and even soothe and moisturise the skin. All you have to do is use 1 to 2 cups of bath salts and add a tablespoon of olive oil in a standard sized bathtub. Soak for at least 12 minutes and do this 2 or 3 times a week for best results. If you do not have a bathtub at home, you can also do this in the shower. Use 1 cup of sea salt, 1/3 cup of coconut oil, and 1 tablespoon of vitamin E oil. Mix the ingredients and create a thick paste. Apply this scrub to your body and a little on your face and leave it for a few minutes. Voila! You’ll have your bath salt equivalent in shower form in less than a matter of minutes.

Ice therapy or what some would call ‘skin icing’ has become a great morning and evening ritual for some. This type of therapy is used in spas and for skincare treatments like cryotherapy. It’s known to fight the formation of wrinkles, heal acne and blemishes, and promote blood circulation and to refresh the face. Some would even say that it has reduced the appearance of their puffy eye bags.

Instead of going to spas for expensive treatments, you can do this at home using ice cubes. For a more refreshing ice therapy session at home, all you have to do is soak a cucumber in water and make ice cubes out of it. Apply it all over your face for 5 minutes or so. Do this 2-3 times a week.

If you’re the kind of person who has literally  tried everything, these simple tips can truly transform your skin when done on a regular basis. Taking care of your skin requires commitment, consistency and discipline but the results are truly worth it!
