The only downside of going on holiday to somewhere hot and sunny is the fact that it doesn’t always agree with your skin. Sunscreen, sand, sun and salt water can play havoc on our pores, making it incredibly important that you remember to look after your skin as much as possible.
Going on holiday doesn’t have to mean completely neglecting your normal skincare routine – you might just have to adapt it slightly to suit your new environment.
Packing all of your products isn’t practical when dealing with baggage allowance stipulations, so it’s a good idea to simplify your routine as much as possible.
Look for Travel Sized Skincare Products
If you don’t have any room in your suitcase to pack all of your full sized skincare products, we suggest looking to see if there are travel sized versions available. This means you’ll be able to take all of your normal products and save room for more clothes and shoes! The smaller size also means that you’ll most likely use it all during your trip and therefore won’t need to bring it back home.
Take Care of Your Skin Before Travelling
The weeks leading up to your holiday should be spent taking extra care of your skin. This is so you can prepare it for the change that it will experience when in a different climate. Spend more time applying moisturiser – treat your skin to an extra dose! The air on planes is extremely dry and will affect your skin negatively. This is why a lot of people break out in spots after travel. To try and avoid this, you should avoid using any product that is going to dry out your skin or that will make it more sensitive to the sun.
Skip the Heavy Makeup
Bare face is a lot better for your skin when on holiday in a hot climate. Heavy makeup can irritate the skin and leave it looking extremely oily. You’re also more likely to break out after wearing a lot of makeup on holiday. You don’t have to skip it completely, just think about it in a more minimal way. Skip the foundation and just apply a generous dose of moisturiser instead. Make sure you apply sunscreen too!
Drinks Lots of Water
Drinking water whilst on holiday is essential to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy. Holidays often mean eating a lot more sugar than usual, as well as drinking a lot more alcohol and sugary drinks than you’re probably used to. This tends to dull the skin, leaving it drier and more prone to spots and blemishes. Therefore it’s essential to keep your skin hydrated by drinking plenty of water! This will deliver essential nutrients to the skin, as well as aiding in moisturising.
