The Christmas lights are twinkling up and down the country, late-night shopping has begun and advent calendars are gradually opening their doors… Yes, it’s well and truly the festive season, time to indulge and break out your dancing shoes for the office party. However, Christmas can be pretty stressful for your complexion, so your skin may not exactly feel like it’s the season of goodwill. Be aware of the pitfalls of the season, take the right precautions, and you can look and feel fantastic right through to the New Year.
Problem 1: Alcohol
We’re starting with the big one – party season will mean the drink is flowing and many of us will indulge a little more than we would at any other time of year. However, alcohol can dehydrate your skin, leaving you looking a little blotchy afterwards. Drink plenty of water and soft drinks alongside your festive tipple, and this will help to keep your skin hydrated and your sugars balanced, leaving you looking and feeling better in the morning.
Problem 2: Sleep
Another thing that comes with Christmas parties is late nights – and if you’re burning the candle at both ends, that’s going to show on your skin. Try and schedule your parties so that you can still get those precious 7 or 8 hours of beauty sleep, and if you can’t then try some of those old home remedies – slices of cucumber over the eyes for ten minutes really can help.
Problem 3: Weather
Christmas is time to get out and be social, but the weather outside can often be frightful – this means you’re constantly going from warm heated homes to the cold, windy (and, fingers crossed, snowy) outdoors, which can really dry out your skin. You may need to add some extra moisturisation to your routine at this time of year, such as Obagi Hydrate Luxe, for an overnight boost.
Here at Skinstation, we offer a selection of high quality skincare treatments including the Obagi Nu Derm system and others, to help fight a range of conditions from dry skin to acne. For more information, or to speak to our team about your skin’s particular needs, contact us on +44 (0)1481 736699.
