It is nearly that time of year again! Autumn is fast approaching, evenings are getting a little chillier and we are getting fewer and fewer t-shirt weather days. You may have already started investing in winter woolies or switching over from your summer wardrobe, but it is important to remember that our skincare regimen also needs a bit of adaptation to the change in weather and humidity.
Compared to the summer months we have been enjoying, autumn is much dryer and cooler and our skin will definitely feel the difference. When it comes to adapting your skincare routine for autumn it is all about moisturising, protecting and preparing your skin! If you aren’t already incorporating these skincare practices for autumn in your routine, now is the perfect time to start…
Autumn Skincare Guide
Autumn Skincare Tip #1- Keep applying sunscreen
Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you can pack away your sunscreen for another year! Whilst the UVA and UVB rays can be stronger in the summer, they are still just as damaging throughout the rest of the year. Even on a cloudy autumn day, your skill will still be exposed to ageing and potentially harmful rays. So keep up your daily SPF application throughout the autumn and your skin will thank you for it with a more youthful appearance for longer.

Autumn Skincare Tip #2- Moisturise, Moisturise, Moisturise
With the combination of autumn nights by the fire, central heating and cooler air arriving our skin will dry out faster. To give your skin a dose of hydration and a buffer between your complexion and the elements, we recommend moisturising every morning and evening to lock it in. In addition your daily moisturiser, your autumn skincare routine should also include a hydrating serum. This added boost of hydration will allow you to keep that dewy summer glow even into the cooler months.
Autumn Skincare Tip #3- Don’t forget your lips
Unlike the rest of our skin, our lips lack the waterproofing outer layer which locks in moisture. This can result in our lips becoming quickly chapped and sore. To keep this delicate area looking and feeling soft and supple, pop a hydrating lip balm into your purse for regular application.
We recommend the Dr Dennis Gross Hyaluronic Marine Collagen Lip Cushion for a hydrating and anti-ageing treatment that can be applied throughout your day.
Autumn Skincare Tip #4- Exfoliate, but gently!
Many of us experience acne in summer due to the excess oil our skin is producing. You might assume that with the change in season this would fix itself, however it is quite the opposite. When we reach autumn, our skin is still producing excess oils and hasn’t had time to slow down from the summer months. Combine this with the cooler air drying out our skin and leaving a buildup of dead skin cells and you have the perfect storm for acne- oil trapped under a surface layer of dry skin.
This is why it is important to start incorporating exfoliating into your skincare for autumn, but remember this doesn’t need to be done with scrubs or friction. Instead it can be done with a chemical exfoliator that is calming on your complexion. This will remove the buildup of dead skin cells and awaken a dull complexion and remove the opportunity for acne-prone skin.
