Is Your Makeup Aging You? Four Makeup Mistakes You Could Be Making

by Posted in Face .

When you hear the phrase ‘makeup mistakes,’ you probably assume that we’re talking about wearing a little too much blusher or overdoing it with the black eyeliner.

Whilst these are common makeup mistakes, we’re thinking about the ones that could actually be making you look a lot older than you are. In fact, they could be causing damage to your skin that permanently adds years to your appearance.

Thankfully, our skincare experts here at Skinstation have put together a guide to these makeup mishaps – so you can avoid making them from now onwards!

Wearing the Wrong Shade of Foundation

Foundation is a miracle worker when it comes to covering up pesky blemishes and creating a smooth looking complexion. However, when it comes to choosing the right shade for your skin type, so many women get it completely wrong.

Many women wrongly assume that foundation is supposed to give them some colour – a little bit of a tan – but this is not true. Bronzer is there to add colour – foundation should match your skin colour perfectly. It should blend into your skin effortlessly; otherwise you’re left with a colour that is two times darker than your neck.

Wearing Too Much Lip Liner

Lip liner is one of them makeup trends that should have been left in the 90s. Unfortunately, it still remains a staple part of people’s makeup routines – which is fine – as long as it’s done correctly. Wearing too much lip liner can actually add years to your appearance. By applying it too far outside the natural line of your lips, it can actually get caught in the fine lines around the mouth and make them stand out more – something you definitely don’t want.

Applying Bright Blusher to the Apples of Your Cheeks

Unless you’re a teenager with supple and taut skin, you shouldn’t be applying your blusher to the apples of your cheeks. When you’re a little older, this will draw attention to the wrong areas of your face.

Blusher should be start at the height of the apple of your cheeks – but then you should blend it up and back. By placing it higher on your face, you are actually adding some definition which will lift your features.

We suggest leaving the bright colours for the teenagers too – find something a little more natural!

Not Giving Your Skin Time To Breathe

We all love makeup – it performs miracles for us on a daily basis. Whilst it’s something we definitely couldn’t live without – you do need to give it a rest sometimes. The skin needs time to breathe – something that can’t be done if constantly under makeup. Taking a day or two off from makeup can do wonders for your skin – it allows your skin to take a little bit of a breather.

We suggest limiting the amount of makeup you wear in general during the week – save your full on look for the weekend and/or nights out.
