The New Year is upon us, meaning new starts and of course, New Year’s resolutions. With January comes the opportunity of fresh beginnings, a time in which everyone around the world looks to make some changes to their lifestyle.
According to a recent YouGov poll the top ten resolutions consist of eating better and exercising more. However, still making the top ten is attention to self-care and focusing more on your health and appearance. This time of year can take a toll on your skin, especially after all the festivities. So, what better time than now to begin a new and fantastic skincare routine?
1.Step Up Your Cleansing Game
Cleansing your face is an extremely important part of any skincare routine, however, ‘double cleansing’ or cleansing your face twice at night can work even better than the simple one cleanse. This is because the first remove your makeup and any excess dirt then the second cleanses your actual skin.
An effective way to do this is to begin with an oil or cream cleanser and follow with a gel, foam or micellar one. This way you can combat both oil and water-soluble dirt.
2.Hyaluronic Acid for Dehydration
Fine lines and wrinkles can sadly become much more prominent in the winter and especially in January after one too many treats. Not only this, but winter means more exposure to a mix of cold temperatures and central heating, meaning dehydration for your skin.
While the term Hyaluronic seems quite daunting, its not. In fact, it occurs naturally in your skin and joints already but decreases as you age. It has the ability to keep in larger amounts of moisture, and even better, makes anything you put on top; moisturiser or serums, much more effective.
Apply a few drops after double cleansing and before adding any moisturiser or serum.
3.A Gel, Oil or Moisturiser?
If you suffer from dry skin, you will certainly know about it in winter. Using a moisturiser regularly is a good way to keep your skin smooth and silky. However, using a facial oil or gel a few times a week, instead of your regular moisturiser, can help seal in much more moisture, protect it from any environmental damage, give it an extra plumped look and of course help with the pesky winter dryness.
4.Keep Your Eyes Refreshed
Feeling a little tired? We wouldn’t expect anything less. The festive season can really take it out of you. A lack of sleep and drinking too much alcohol can leave the skin around your eyes feeling less than healthy. Luckily, proper care can help your skin return to looking smooth and youthful. If you are feeling a little worn out this month, make sure you add a boosting eye serum to your new year skin routine.
5.Treat Yourself to a Face Mask
Let’s face it, along with new years resolutions, whatever yours may be, a detox is in order. The post-Christmas months consist more of staying indoors, watching TV and trying to eat better. If you are trying to keep clean; from your diet to your skin, then what better time to have some ‘me time’ and add a face mask into your new routine?
Not only can you feel super relaxed from a face mask wind-down, but it will give your skin an instant refreshing boost.
The new year is a time for fresh starts, but our end goal for any resolution is to feel refreshed, rejuvenated and energised. There is no better way to achieve this than to focus your time and energy on your skin. With the right products and some dedication, you can make 2018 the year in which every day is a good skin day.
