If we’re feeling especially groggy or strapped for time in the morning, taking extra care to be thorough with our skincare is usually the first thing to go when it comes to our morning routine. The same goes in the evening. If we’ve had an exhausting day and find ourselves already tightly snuggled up with a good book, peeling ourselves from the comfort of our warm beds in the name of splashing cold water on our faces is hardly appealing! To some, dedicating time and effort to our skincare routines can feel time consuming or even downright boring.
However, the truth of the matter is, no matter how annoying you find your skincare routine, it’s still something that is essential if you want to keep your skin feeling and looking its best. Even if you don’t plan on or haven’t worn makeup that day.
So, on those relaxed Sundays (or on any other day of the week) when you don’t feel like lifting a finger, here’s a lazy day skincare routine that you can do in a matter of minutes:
1. Foolproof makeup removal and cleansing: if there’s one part of your skincare routine that you should aim to maintain at all costs, it’s cleansing your face. This is important in the evenings to ensure the removal of any dirt or makeup build up but equally important in the morning to cleanse your face of oils. Arguably, with the current state of the world, it’s important now more than ever to ensure our faces are kept clean. However, if you tend to have a habit of skipping makeup removal and washing your face, consider keeping makeup wipes near your bedside table. You may even want to keep some micellar water close and spritz a little onto your face before you go to bed to help with the cleansing process. This can be a better option than just leaving your makeup on overnight and it also gets you in the habit of cleansing your face before bed. You can always work up to the real deal once you make this a habit first.
2. Use multi-purpose products: products that serve more than one purpose are your best friend. Some toners also double up as moisturisers and they can work amazingly for people who don’t like putting layers and layers of products on their face. There are also treatment pads that serve as toners and exfoliants all in the one product. By using these types of products, it is easier to manage your skincare routine despite experiencing even the laziest of days- we’ve all been there!
3. Use face masks: not only does using a face mask feel like you’re giving yourself a well-deserved treat and can make you feel like you’re at a day spa, they are extremely helpful in giving your skin a well-rounded boost of nourishment. The best bit is that there are an array of different options to suit your preferences and skin needs too; mud masks, peel-off masks, overnight masks, and even those serum-soaked masks that come in sheets. Face masks are usually potent in formulation with a range of benefits, so often, they can actually work as a multi-purpose product that replaces multiple steps in your skincare regimen.
Maintaining a healthy skincare routine is all about consistency. Make your routine something that is manageable and something you can actually stick to on a daily basis and you can’t go wrong.
