After a festive period full of parties and get-togethers full of drinking and eating, you may feel and look exhausted. The dark circles under yours eyes may have developed into bags and you definitely don’t feel your best. While eye bags are no cause for concern, they certainly make you feel and look older. So how do you recover from this season of soirees?

Well, to begin with you have to ask yourself, how did they get there in the first place? There are many medical reasons for them such as seasonal allergies, eczema, water retention and lack of sleep. A common reason at this time of year may be a general tiring lifestyle. Self-Inflicted behaviours such as alcohol and smoking can be reasons. By changing lifestyle and diet, you can get rid of the dreaded bags, but there are also numerous natural ways to help get rid easily.

Take Care of Your Allergies

When your allergies flame up, you are probably well aware, and as your body is weaker from the festive season, your immune system will be down. This means you need to take extra care and notice when your allergies are creeping in. You can use essential oils, and try to catch them before they start. Keep an essential medicine with you at all times just in case.

Reduce Salt and Add Collagen

Your diet can play a huge part in tired eyes, even though not many people know this. Too much salt in a diet is usually linked to high blood pressure, but all that sodium actually causes a retention of fluid which leads to puffiness around the eyes. If you are a salt lover, try using a pure sea salt, and only a very small amount. In general avoid foods with high salt count and try the alternative healthier options, such as fresh vegetables. These types of foods can curb the need for salt too.

Collagen is a very important protein within our bodies which is found in our tendons, skin, bones and muscles and helps a whole lot in regards to the strength of skin. By increasing levels of collagen in your body you can make your skin look firmer, smoother and renewed. Things like chicken bone broth will help, or a supplement can be taken.

Products

There are many useful products on the market that can do the same thing as many other options, but in a quicker and more efficient way. A lot of products offer long term effects and are very sensitive to that particular part of the skin. Some products even include caffeine, which isn’t just a delicious drink to wake you up, but can have great effects on your skin and especially for them eye bags. Since a large part of aging includes dehydration of the skin, moisturising is essential; and a lot of products moisturise as well as working their wonders.

Another point to consider is using makeup. Concealer is a great short term product for clearing up the appearance of having bags, but leaving makeup on, especially overnight can irritate your skin and eyes. Make sure you gently remove all makeup to prevent further irritation.

Exercise

The most natural way to reduce eye bags and gain a more youthful glow to the skin and eyes is exercise. You can even indulge in some ‘face yoga’ which involves slow exercises to help tone and tighten facial muscles.  Regular yoga is a great way to increase circulation to the face and in general, which can carry excess fluid away, in turn reducing swelling.

Sleep

This might seem like an obvious one, but sleep is a major factor in tired eyes and bags. Getting the recommended nightly sleep for your age is vital, as well as your sleeping position and time you get to sleep. If you sleep on your back, this is good, as it can prevent fluid build-up due to gravity. Maybe add an extra pillow under her head, but make sure your pillows and bedding are effective and comfy enough for you to have a good night’s sleep.

Lifestyle

Within this small timeframe from Christmas to New Year, you probably consume a large amount of alcohol, and you may smoke. This can be prevented if you simply avoid them, but most people would say this is easier said than done. Alcohol dehydrates your body and your skin which causes your eyes to appear darker and sunken, as well as bloodshot and tired. Try balancing out your alcohol consumption with water and drink as much as you can. You will feel fresher and much perkier.
