With April almost over, it’s fair to say that Spring has well and truly sprung. We’ve already started to pack away our winter wardrobe – creating room for all the new, bright, and colourful clothes that have started to dominate our favourite clothing stores.
Apart from an excuse to buy new clothes, spring also means longer and brighter days, and therefore more sun exposure. Because of this, you also need to start thinking about transitioning your skin from its winter routine to one that is perfect for spring!
So how can you transition from one season to another without causing your skin any unnecessary damage?
Step #1 Swap Out Your Moisturiser
Due to harsh temperatures outside and dry temperatures inside, the winter months can leave the skin feeling dry, itchy and dull. This often means using a heavier duty moisturiser to keep the skin as hydrated as possible. However, this isn’t needed in the spring, as the air holds a lot more moisture.
Now is the perfect time to swap this out for something that offers a much lighter coverage. This will allow your skin the room to breathe, whilst keeping it happy and hydrated.
Remember to look out for a moisturiser that offers you SPF for that all important sun protection.
Step #2 Don’t Forget to Exfoliate
Exfoliation isn’t as important in the warmer months, but that doesn’t mean that you should stop doing it altogether. In fact, it’s extremely important to do it as we start to head into the height of spring.
We tend to stay wrapped up tight in winter to keep us warm, which means that our skin doesn’t shed as much as it should do. Because of this, it’s essential to exfoliate your skin to get rid of any dead cells.
Step #3 Purchase SPF Everything
We’ve already advised purchasing a moisturiser that has built in SPF, but this isn’t all you need to do to keep your skin safe from sun exposure. You should also be applying sunscreen daily – even if the weather doesn’t look overly sunny!
We also suggest purchasing a foundation and lip balm that has built in SPF too – these may also need to be reapplied regularly in order to maximise their usefullness.
Step #4 Choose a New Foundation
Speaking of foundation; spring is the perfect time to swap your existing foundation for something different. Whilst your current foundation might have been perfect during the winter, it could be too heavy for the spring weather. Lightweight foundations will help to avoid clogged pores and even out your skin tone
Step #5 Drink Plenty of Water
Our spring skincare routine doesn’t just mean swapping old products or introducing new ones. It’s also important to ensure that you are keeping your body as hydrated as possible – something you can do through getting enough water. This means taking plenty of baths and drinking the recommended amount of water.
Taking regular baths will keep your skin looking and feeling hydrated and radiant, whilst upping your drinking water game will keep your body healthy and happy!
