What is Your Skin Trying to Tell You?

by Posted in Skin, Lifestyle, Face .

The human body is a brilliant thing. It has a way of telling you when it’s not happy or when something’s not quite right. One of the ways it gives you messages about your internal wellbeing is through the condition of your skin. But what does that breakout of spots or itchy rash mean?

Stress

At some point in our lives, stress will affect us all, and your skin will be able to tell you all about it! When you are stressed, your body reacts by producing cortisol and other hormones. This leads to an increase in oil and so can cause breakouts.

The chemical reaction that is going on in your body will also make your skin more sensitive and will cause problems in the healing process.

You will probably find that any pre-existing skin complaints will worsen when you are stressed.

Hormones

You will probably already have noticed that your skin can let you know that your period is on its way before it arrives. This is due to the hormones that are flying around your body, such as testosterone which causes your glands to produce more oil, which as we all know, means more spots.

Allergies

If you notice a rash, it may be due to an allergy. This could be anything from a product you are using on your skin, to something you’ve eaten. The best option is to see a doctor and ask for an allergy test.

Diet

Diet has a huge impact on the skin as this is where we get the nutrients and vitamins required for a healthy complexion. If you don’t get the vitamins you need, you will find that your skin starts to show it. A bad diet can cause anything from sallowness to inflammation. If you are wondering which vitamins you need, read one of our recent blog posts.
