3 Ways to Reinvent Your Beauty Routine for Spring

Spring is nearly upon us and we couldn’t be happier. The new season ushers in longer days, nature in bloom and (dare we say it?) the warmer weather… With this new season upon us, we will also be thinking about adapting our skincare routine with the climate.

1. Don’t Forget to Cleanse

We know you know cleansing is always important - regardless of the season. However, in the warmer months, cleansing is even more crucial as sweat builds up and runs the risk of clogging our pores. It’s vital not to rely solely on makeup wipes when it comes to removing impurities from your skin as a wipe alone can’t cleanse your skin as thoroughly as it needs, leading to acne, dry patches of skin, or a general lacklustre appearance.

We recommend upgrading to a cleanser which works for you and your skin as a must-have in your spring skincare routine. Using your chosen product twice daily, in the morning and in the evening, will have your complexion looking fresh and dewy - the perfect spring combination.

But don’t forget that depending on your skin type, you may see benefits in different types of cleansers. For example, if you have sensitive skin, we recommend a hydrating gentle cleanser, such as SUZANOBAGIMD™ Foaming Facial Cleanser. This cleanser is perfect for those who want a product that is effective, yet gentle and nourishing. This thick microfoam gently and deeply cleanses, removing oil build-up, makeup and environmental impurities, whilst also being kind to sensitive skin types.

Whereas, if you would categorise yourself as having more oily or acne-prone skin, then a salicylic acid-based cleanser would be a much better option. Our very own Murad Clarifying Cream Cleanser is the ideal candidate. This cleanser targets breakouts for up to 8 hours after rinsing due to the encapsulated salicylic acid. The salicylic acid unclogs congested pores and removes any excess oil from the skin. By removing 99.9% of the bacteria that causes spots, this cleanser works to heal and prevent future breakouts.

Finally, if you have dry skin, removing your natural hydrating oils is something you want to avoid. Opt for a cream cleanser which will help the top layer of your skin retain more moisture. Our Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser has a creamy has a creamy formula which has all the benefits of a typical exfoliant whilst disguising itself as a convenient cleanser. Formulated with dry, dull skin in mind, this cleanser will keep your skin nourished and free from impurities.

2. Protect Your Skin With SPF

No matter what skin type you have, wearing SPF is a must. In winter, it’s tempting for us to shelve our SPF and remove this step from our beauty regimen. However, even when the sun hides behind clouds, harmful UV rays are still very much present. As we move into spring, it’s vital that we implement SPF back into our routine (even though it should never have left!).

Our Skin Experts recommend that in the morning, as a final step in your skincare routine, you apply your SPF generously. Don’t forget to (gently) cover the areas around the eyes too - this section of skin is often forgotten but is one of the most sensitive areas of the face. We recommend not just stopping at the face either. Any part of your body which is not covered by clothing should also receive a layer of SPF.

3. Exfoliate on a Regular Basis

As the weather starts to heat up, our layers of clothing begin to shed - and the same goes for our skin. To get rid of those dry, dead skin cells which have been building up during the cool winter months, it’s time to focus on exfoliating.

Exfoliating should also be a present step in your all-year-round skincare regimen. However, if you are new to the exfoliating game, we recommend dipping your toe in the water first before diving in. If you’ve only just started exfoliating your skin, we suggest only doing it once a week. This is because your skin barrier could be disrupted, and with the risk of doing it too much, too fast, it could worsen pre-existing skin conditions and cause breakouts.

If you are concerned about taking that first step, you could always try an exfoliator which has been formulated with sensitive skin in mind. This will include much gentler ingredients that are kinder to the skin. For example, our 111SKIN Clinical Exfoliator resurfaces the skin to create a clearer, fresher complexion, without causing irritation to the skin. The 111SKIN Clinical Exfoliator is formulated with an antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory rosemary hydrolat base, which balances the skin's microbiome, whilst also soothing and calming the skin.
