Kate Winslet's Summer Skincare Routine

Oscar-winner Kate Winslet knows a thing or two about skincare! With an acting career spanning decades, the Titanic actor has always achieved an effortless glow, with a beautiful natural complexion. So what is her summer skincare routine? With 10 years working as a beauty ambassador, we bet she has a few beauty and skincare tips that are worth noting!

Sleep

One of the first and most important steps in Kate’s summer skincare routine is sleep. Sleep plays a huge role in how our skin looks and feels. Whilst there is makeup and skincare products, nothing can quite replace the benefits of a full 8 hour snooze, and Kate agrees. “Sleep and health play a big part in looking fresh. If I’m over-tired or stressed, no amount of makeup and hair can disguise the impact of that on one’s face”- Another excuse to have that lie in!

Nutrition And Hydration

As well as sleep, what we put in our body's can impact how our skin looks and feels. Another important thing we can all agree on is the importance of staying hydrated, especially in the summer months! Winslet revealed that her top tip for getting red-carpet ready was “water water water”. She continued by saying... “keep the body hydrated and the skin will follow suit”, and she’s right! If you drink plenty of water and avoid dehydrating liquids such as coffee and alcohol your skin will feel more hydrated and look firmer. Whilst it can be trickier to cut out the coffee, carrying around a bottle of water to sip on can only benefit our skin and our body.

Always Remove Makeup

This is a classic skincare tip, but one we stand firm with Kate on. “I always take my makeup off no matter how tired I am”. Leaving makeup on overnight can encourage acne-causing bacteria to multiply on the face, clogging your pores and prohibiting your skin from breathing. No matter how sleepy you are, always remove that makeup! A quick tip from us here at Skinstation is to keep a cleanser or makeup remover by your bed, this way there are no excuses.

Kate prefers to use a cleanser to remove makeup and impurities at the end of the day, using a “good flat facial sponge to make sure it’s truly clean”. A few daily cleansers we recommend are Dr Barbara Sturm Cleanser, Obagi Gentle Cleanser and SkinCeuticals Gentle Cream Cleanser.

Moisturising Toner

After cleansing it is important to tone the skin to close the pores and prepare for further product re-absorption. She says that she often suffers with dry and dehydrated skin so she uses a hydrating toner to moisturise and re-balance her skin’s pH levels. We hear you Kate! Some toners we recommend include Obagi CRX System C-Balancing Toner, Obagi Nu-Derm Toner and SkinCeuticals Blemish & Age Toner.

If you want to learn more about the benefits of toners you can read our blog post 'What is a Toner and Why Do You Need One?' here.

Facials

When Kate needs an added boost to her complexion she gets a nourishing facial treatment. Unfortunately it is not always possible to get out and book a facial whenever you need a pick-me-up. So for that at-home spa feeling that you can have whenever you need it, we have the perfect recommendations. Dr Dennis Gross has created the Spectralite Faceware Pro, designed to use LED lights to smooth wrinkles and zap acne-causing bacteria. To learn more about this reusable mask you can read our blog post ‘What is the Dr Dennis Gross Spectralite Faceware Pro?’. Alternatively if you’d prefer a radiance-enhancing face mask we recommend MZ Skin Hydra-Lift Golden Facial Treatment for a touch of at-home luxury.
