Retinol, found in the Intelligent Retinol TR range, is the most well-known form of vitamin A and the form most readily available on the market. When retinol is applied to the skin, it is converted to retinaldehyde and then to retinoic acid. Retinoic acid is the active form of vitamin A. This is the form that can actually produce all the effects we have come to associate with vitamin A; increased skin cell renewal, synthesis and protection of collagen and minimising pigment overproduction in the skin. This means a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, a smoother and more even complexion, and a youthful-looking glow. Retinaldehyde, the star of Crystal Retinal and also found in r-Retinoate Intense, is one step closer to the bioavailable form of vitamin A, retinoic acid. It must undergo only one conversion to become active, and because of this it is 11x faster acting on the skin than retinol. Retinal is available at varying concentrations in our Crystal Retinal range. Retinyl retinoate, found in r-Retinoate Day & Night and r-Retinoate Intense, is the ultimate form of cosmetic vitamin A - it has direct activity on our skin cells, requiring no conversion steps like its cousins' retinol and retinal. It has been found to be 8x more powerful than retinol.

For the first two weeks, use you vitamin A twice a week (e.g. Sundays and Thursdays). For the second two weeks: use your vitamin A on alternating nights. Then, if you are comfortable and experience no irritation you can use it every night.

Every time you start on a new molecule of vitamin A (eg. switching between Intelligent Retinol and Crystal Retinal). Except when switching to r-Retinoate Day & Night, which is so gentle it doesn’t need to be phased in. You do not have to phase in when moving up strength in the same vitamin A ladder (eg. moving from Crystal Retinal 3 to Crystal Retinal 6).
